Would the Freemasons allow females to join the society if she meets the criteria (s) ?

Hello:
Thank you for allowing me to inquire about the status of female members within the Brethren.
I also would seek information about the Freemason’s counterpart for females if any do exist?
I am grateful for this opportunity to learn more about this fine society and I eagerly anticipate your response.
Respectfully,
Karen M

Thank you for asking

Dear Ms M,

I regret to have to inform you that, in its true form, Freemasonry is a fraternity, which is to say, a group limited to men.

There is a generally-recognized appendent body known as The Order of the Eastern Star. The Star does indeed admit women.

There are also irregular groups, some quite successful, ones which admit both men and/or women and which operate along Masonic lines, but neither of these are recognized by regular Masons.

I hope this answers your question. Again, thank you for asking.
