What if I have no religious background?

by LUIS

What if I am interested in joining the Masonic lodge, and yet have no previous ties with churches other than charity work and volunteering? Also, I have noticed I am very confused to what religion I should choose. Is that an issue? I am mainly more tied with Catholicism, and find myself more bonded but not too closely to it. In other words I'm in between.

Also, I have no income because I am currently a student in higher education. I am 18, but do see myself somewhere good. Would I have to wait til such age?

Religious background
by: Fred

Masonry is not a religion, it is a fraternity. The only religious requirement, is a belief in a Supreme being. A religious background is not required.

As Fred notes, we do not require formal church membership or regular attendance at services.

Do you believe in a supreme being? It's up to you to define that Being. If you can say yes to that simple question, then you've essentially 'passed the test'.

As to your present state, 18 may be too young in your area. Any local Mason could tell you or you could contact the grand lodge of your jurisdiction. Waiting a couple of years, getting settled down before applying might be your best option anyway.

Good luck and thanks for your question.
