Joining a Masonic Lodge

(Mobile, AL)

To whom it may concern,

My name is Sam and I've been wanting to join the Freemasons since I was a boy. I know you need at least two members to represent you, but I don't think I know anyone who could. Could I attend one of the lodge's meetings and ask to join that way? What would be my best bet?

Becoming a Mason: 2 B 1 Ask 1
by: Tim

Hello Sam,
and thank you for visiting Masonsmart.

Congratulations on your interest in Freemasonry. You are correct; two Masons in good standing with the fraternity will need to sign your petition recommending you for membership. This generally is not that difficult, but it can take a little time.

I would suggest using the Internet or the local telephone book to locate and contact lodges in your area. Just send an e-mail or give them a call and tell them of your interest in the fraternity. They'll want to meet you, to get to know you a little, and to answer any questions you might have. I can only speak for U.S. Masonry but in Alabama, where you are, I expect you would be invited to dinner or coffee at the lodge on a meeting night to meet some of the brethren. It may take a few such meetings for the brethren to feel they know you well enough to recommend you. During this process you can also ask questions and gain insights into the fraternity and determine whether becoming a Mason is truly right for you.

It's unusual these days, but there may be lodges in your area that do not have a Web presence or a lodge telephone. You might also want to check the Alabama Grand Lodge Web sites to help locate all lodges in your area. Below are the Web addresses for the Grand Lodges in Alabama:

Grand Lodge F. & A. M. of Alabama
http://www.alafreemasonry.org/index.php

Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Alabama, F.& A. M.
http://mwphglofal.org/

I hope this proves helpful to you and again, thank you for visiting Masonsmart.

Cordially and fraternally,

Tim

Ben

The first question is where do you live? Masonic lodges are not in every town, but are easily located on the internet.

I have been able to locate lodges all over the world by a simple internet search.

Ben.
You must locate the nearest lodge or Grand Lodge that your city or country is part of. They will be your best guide
