Having a hard time finding information on this topic.

by Robert Dawson
(St Peters Missouri )

Ive always been interested in the freemasons. My mother passed when i was younger but going through some of her things i discovered she was an Eastern Star. Turns out that my uncle Ron, who I never got the chance to know to well, is a freemason as well along with my other aunt Gloria. Would this newly discovered information grant me access to become a freemason like my family, and if so, what do i do now?

Hard time
by: Fred

Robert,
Thank you for your question. The short answer is no. Your Uncle being a mason, and your mom and aunt being Eastern Star do not automatically open door to joining a Masonic Lodge. There are many masons, who's family members are not masons. I am the first iny my family. If you are interested in masonry, you have already taken the first step, asking about the fraternity. Your next step would be to contact your local lodge, and talk to some there. In general, to join a Masonic Lodge, you MUST be a man, free born,of lawful age, being of good moral character, believing in a Supreme Being, coming to the fraternity of your own free will. Most jurisdictions can not recruit members. You will be required to fill out a petition for membership, and go through a screening process.

I hope this helps,
Good luck

Fred

thank you

Thank you for your response. I will be looking into joining. I always thought in order to become a member you needed to have members of your family who were already freemasons? It seems that i have much to learn.

You started learning in the only way possible, by asking. One thing about the Craft is that you need never stop learning.

Congratulations on your family-related discoveries, by the way. That's a lot of fun.

Fred has covered the bases well.

Good luck on your journey.
