great grandfather 33rd degree mason hirem white

What does my great grandfather's first name mean, Hirem, last name -white, anything to do with masonry? and he was a 33rd degree mason, what details does the tile hold for placement. I believe also I'm related to Franklin Delano Roosevelt....as a third cousin. So this would naturally be in the family?

Very sorry for the very long delay. The owner of the site has been dealing with some serious family issues.

'Hiram' is a Biblical name. I gather that it means 'son of the exalted one' in Hebrew. As it was given to him as a baby, I doubt it originally had anything to do with Freemasonry - many boys were given Biblical names. Freemasons acknowledge two Hirams from the Books of Kings in their ritual.

A 33rd degree is an honorary degree given to members of the Scottish Rite, a branch of Freemasonry, for long and exceptional service.
