Does Freemasonry have a connection to Islam?

The reason I ask is because I read an article that talks about how the founding members of Masonry in America, such as George Washington, who was a 33rd degree Mason, wore these fezes bearing the word "Moslem" on them. The word Moslem itself is another version of the word Muslim, as it explains in the Holy Qu'Ran, Surah 18, verses 11-12. The Honorable Elijah Muhammad also had an understanding of Masonry on how an English Slave Trader brought Africans to America based on deception and fraud. He identified the gathering of approximately 300 million Moslem sons, in other words Masons, who have attained a higher degree of Supreme Wisdom as taught by Honorable Elijah Muhammad.

I think you have been misinformed in a number of ways.

First off, while active in the Craft, George Washington could not possibly have been a 33rd degree Mason. At the time he was alive, Scottish Rite Masonry (the only one which has ever had 33 degrees) offered just 25 degrees. The expansion to 33 degrees was not until 1801, two years after Washington's death.

As to the Founding Fathers wearing fezes, I won't say that none of them ever did, but the Masonic fez is linked to the Shriners, which were not formed until 1872, almost a century after the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

With respect to the word, "Moslem" on a fez, the standard Shriner fez has the name of their Shrine on it. The names generally have Middle East themes. The National Centre for Charitable Statistics lists a, "Ancient Egyptian Arabic Order Nobles Mystic Shrine of N & S Amer 79 Moslem Temple" in Phoeniz, AZ. It might be a picture of one of their fezes you have seen, but I am unsure of their status. Most Shriner fezes do not have that word on them.

The African slave trade was indeed a very sad thing. History records arab slave traders, white slave traders and black kings selling their own people to both. It was not a proud period in human history.

Such a silly, foolish statement. Man up to your own history.

First off, Freemasonry is not a religion. Period.

Secondly, slavery is a universal blight, something which has involved all races and all religions. Whites owned slaves, blacks owned slaves, yellows owned slaves - and those slaves were of all colors. Slaves owned slaves. Right now, it would be hard to describe North Korea as anything but a slave state, yet it is officially, completely atheistic. Or check out Aleksander Solshenitsyn'S 'The Gulag Archipelago' for an exhaustive study of how the (atheistic) USSR's slave labor system worked.

Oh, but you are concerned about black slaves. So tell us, where did those black slaves come from, the ones sold by Arab (and white) slave traders? It's a sad bit of history - for those who can be bothered checking it out - that it was all too often black kings selling their own people. It was a booming business for centuries. I would refer anyone interested in that trade to a book called 'The Peculiar Institution' by K.M. Stampp.

Slavery was - and, sadly, remains - a blight on the human soul. But trying to blame any one group for it simply demonstrates an appalling ignorance of human history.

In most countries where Islam is the governing law, the average individual has a relatively low general knowledge and that is not a coincidence. It is harder to rule knowledgeable people. In my opinion is harder but more fun :o) Freemasonry (as I understand) encourages culture and it embraces philosophical dilemma. No chance to be a free freemason under an Islamic dictatorship.

In this regard, there is no difference between Islamic theocracies, fascist dictatorships or communist dictatorships. (I might have added Christian theocracies, but it has been centuries since Masons were savagely persecuted by such.)

Any closed-minded system will oppose the Craft.
