Appropriate burial attire for a Master MAson

by betsy

What is an appropriate outfit for a Master Mason to be buried in? My father was Master of his Lodge and holds the "old ways" of doing things very dear. His good friend is handling the Masonic Ritual part of the services but I want to know if Dad should wear his tux or a regular suit? Can the pins he wore to Lodge on his lapel be buried with him - or displayed for his wake?

Burial attire

Hi Betsy,
Thank you for your question.
Your father's burial attire can be whatever you decide it should be. A Masonic funeral service is simply a ceremony at which we pay our final respects to our departed brother. If your father had a favorite suit, it's appropriate. As for the pins? That, again, is your choice, you might want to keep some as a remembrance, or keep them all, or include them with him.
All in all, a Masonic funeral is not about us, it's about the family, as I stated earlier, we are there to pay our respects, you, the family make the decisions.

I think Fred has said it very well. There are no rules about such things. I am sure your father would be happy with whatever you decide.

My condolences at your loss.
