Masonic News & Views -- Ya'll come back
January 09, 2011
Greetings Brother,

The Universe is kind of like a frat-buddy who is always there to cheer you up or turn a minor indiscretion into serious trouble. Some days you need your frat-buddy.

Even life at the CowChows has its ups and downs. And, I'll admit I was feeling a little down today. There was no reason for it or cause of it so far as I could tell. It was just one of those blue winter days that makes you want to curl up under a blanket and wait for tomorrow, which is pretty much what I had done all morning and into the afternoon.

Finally, I decided to try and be of some earthly use today, and I pulled myself up and into the shower hoping that a long hot shower might bring me back to life. I was toweling off, and trying to convince myself that I did feel better, when I realized the clothes I was planning to wear were in the laundry room, on the other side of the house. I could've easily slipped into some other clothes, but those are my comfortable ones; they feel good, and they'd be perfect for a day like this.

I guess I could've wrapped something around me, but it just seemed like too much trouble. And besides, it only takes about four seconds to go from the bedroom to the laundry room. Sure the whole back side of the house is a series of uncovered windows, but it's just dense forest out that way. So I stepped through the bedroom door and, after receiving an appreciative whistle from the Lady BG, headed across the open living space toward the laundry room. And, that's when my frat-buddy the Universe decided to cheer me up.

I was about halfway across the space when the back doorbell began to chime. I froze like a deer caught in headlights, and there standing on the back porch of the CowChows were two of Jehovah's Witnesses finest. They hadn't seen me yet. I could've probably made a hasty retreat to the bedroom and they wouldn't have seen me at all. That's probably what I should have done.

Instead, and I don't know why, I strolled over to the door and swung it wide open and cried, "Hallelujah! My prayers have been answered! Come on in!"

I was momentarily blinded when they threw a handful of pamphlets in my direction. Then there was a scuffle as they tripped over each other getting off the porch. As they were racing across the yard to their car I called out, "Ya'll come back now. Ya hear!"

I don't think they will, though.

Fraternally yours,

Tim Couch
